Zappos has clothing, shoes, etc. It is a website with a huge amount of products on it. This website could easily be very unorganized but I feel like they do a decent job at organizing the site and I really like the homepage.

This is also one of my favorite websites. It literally can give you all you need to know about actors, movies, etc. The site is organized really well and it is easy to access different pages. I feel like the search engine is one of the best, the results are really accurate.

I really like to use amazon.com. I feel like I am on this site for almost everything. It not only has books but music, movies and much more. The site is really easy to use and is set up really professional. My favorite aspect of this site is that when you click on an item it suggests things that other people have bought when they bought the current item. Once you have been on the site, it remember items you have viewed and on the homepage it will suggest items you may like when you return.

Although the new Big Ten logo is starting to grow on me, the website needs an upgrade, too. The site opens with a large photo of a tip-off at a basketball tournament game, a sight that would make any sports junkie drool. However, the navigation for the site is in small font at the bottom of the page and if you click on the photo, you will be directed to a link to purchase tickets. If you were looking for the latest Big Ten Women’s Rowing scores, as I was, you would have become quickly frustrated with the lack of navigation ease.

The layout is a bit overwhelming, too. Three vertical columns are present, but are of varying widths. Additionally, the spry photo gallery is deceiving. Click on the thumbnail picture of OSU player Aaron Craft and a larger picture of a Purdue players pops up. This site is definitely catering to the extreme, couch potato, sports junkie – with pages about to overflow with information.

This website is mediocre at best. A number of the pages have been saved with awkward names such as “Page 3.” If you navigate to the Weidner’s Corner section of the site, which is a small corner diner from where I live, there are various issues. On the inside weidner’s page, all of the photos are placed on the page, making the loading time for the page take longer. The same can be said for the joke page in the Weidner’s section of the site. Also, on the jokes page, although many of the jokes and comics are amusing, the page has no navigation except for the very top and very bottom of the page and the page is extremely long.

On the main page, a few of the navigation links on the left side are missing a line or something to make them easily read as separate links. Also, despite the color schemes of the page being fairly well put together, a large portion of the text is not very easy to read. If it weren’t for the copyright information at the bottom of each page, I would have made the assumption that the sites are never maintained after they were created.

Two For Thursday

I have two sites percolating in my head this evening. The first, my professional organization, the National Association of Farm Broadcasting, did a refurb on its website in recent months.

I like the design of the new site; the color scheme fits with most of the organization’s marketing materials, and the theme is fairly consistent. The navigation of the new site is infinitely better than the previous version.

One of the things I think is most challenging for an organization like NAFB is keeping content fresh throughout the year. The ideal scenario for a site is to have new content every day. This isn’t always realistic, particularly for a small organization like ours.

Overall, I think the new site is a job well done.

The second site I’m really excited about is MarleneEick.com. Marlene is one of my favorite people and sometime-life coach, so I follow her work closely. She’s put a lot of effort into her online “brand” over the years, and this latest effort is an extension of that.

Marlene uses tumblr to drive the page’s content, but she’s selected a design theme and template that fits her overall style and personal brand. I think this is a great example of how professional communicators can market themselves online.

Weather Channel

This is the website I use to get my weather. I have an app on my phone that I downloaded from the website and will send any weather alerts through a text message. The website is very easy to use, on the home screen all you have to do is enter your zip code and it will show you your current weather conditions. There is also a satellite map of your area showing current weather patterns.

This is a good website for information pertaining to all ford made diesel motors. It is a good website to ask questions or find out about upcoming things. The down feature about this website is that if you are not a member you cannot look at all the profile pictures unless you google the picture. It is easy to type in any key words and find a topic that relates to your search. From there you can go between post made by members or guests as well as professionals from ford. Now, every once in while you will find a post that relates to other motors besides ford, but this is mainly focused on all fords.

This website is what I use to order any aftermarket parts at a great price. Since they run sales all the time or publish coupons regularly it is possible to always catch a deal. The good part about the website it is usually updated with the most recent catalog parts. It also breaks each part into sections that can be easily filtered for convenience. I also like that the website usually has a detailed picture of each of the parts. The website also makes use of an online chat system, always as easy contact information.

Cheap Tickets

This is the website that I have used for several years now while booking airline tickets or a hotel room. I would have recommended to almost anyone this website to use as of up to 3 weeks ago. However, the website changed their search feature by making you manually select the airline company you would prefer. This made the search much longer and was a hassle to find the cheapest flight, because you had to click back each time you wanted to find another airline company. Recently, they have switched back to their normal search system allowing you to select all the airline companies at once. It now makes this system user friendly and quick to find plane tickets.
